Turbochargers

Our turbos are engineered with the latest CAE, FEA and CFD tools, we perform computerized simulations and follow through with validations on our flow bench and applications based dynamometer testing. We work to bring solutions such as innovative design of the rotor vanes and flow optimization in compressor housing design. All of the turbos we sell are balanced on our Turbo Technics VSR MK4 balancing machine. This allows us to stand behind the turbos we sell and offer our customers a great value on top level performance.

Turbine Housing

SPA Turbo designs and manufactures a variety of turbine housings to allow customers to meet flow / backpressure / response needs and thereby facilitate numerous setup options. The SPA Turbo TORNADO series have innovative features such as an exclusive volute design that maximizes flow in toward the turbine inducer which in turn increases power available to drive the turbo.

Turbo Manifolds

SPA Turbo supplies more than 80 different Cast Iron Manifolds for Turbo applications.

This particular product line is one of our more established products worldwide.

SPA Turbo utilizes best practices engineering to design these manifolds and validate the designs with FEA, CFD, Flow bench and Dynamometer testing. Cast Iron Turbo Manifolds are warrantied and enjoy success in the markets in Africa, Europe, North America and South America. Manufactured with high quality materials, offering great designs and excellent flow, it is understandable that these manifolds are desired by customers.

Turbo Valves

Wastegates Valves perform a very important function; they are responsible for controlling the boost pressure created by the turbo system. In other words, it controls the speed of the turbo. 

SPA Turbo designs and manufactures many Wastegate models, such as: USA, XFlow, SuperFlow, MCS-I, MSC-S, MCS-L, Compact-S, Compact-L.

Blow-off valves perform another important function in a turbo system; it relieves the pressurized air from the intake system when the throttle blade is closed. After the throttle blade is closed, there is a pressure spike in the intake system. Between the turbo and the throttle blade there will typically be several feet of tubing, an intercooler and rubber or silicone tube connectors. 

These act as a capacitor and when the pressure spike is combined with less exhaust gas energy to drive the turbine wheel (because the throttle is closed), the pressure in the intake system will try to escape through the compressor of the turbo. This event can cause a compressor stall, or rapid reversal of air flow through the compressor. Unless this pressure is relieved, the compressor wheel can be damaged.

SPA Turbo has designed numerous different Blow-off valves to deal with this potential issue, valves such as: Cylinder, XFlow, Radial, Drill, are available in multiple colors.

Intake Pipes and Manifolds

SPA Turbo supplies a large line of Cast Aluminum Pipes, Intercooler Tanks and Carburetor Plenums for the intake system. 45 degree, 90 degree elbows, reducing elbows, special throttle body inlet adapters, narrow passage tubing and more allow customers to design their own turbo systems with quality components. SPA Turbo also supply various intake manifolds for VW applications. Several intake manifolds for weber-style carburetors and a high flow short runner intake manifold for the VR6 engine.

Intercoolers

The intercooler, also known as a Charge Air Cooler, is an accessory used on turbocharged engines to improve performance and increase engine reliability. 

This is an air cooler with the same principle of operation of the water cooler. Use ambient air passing through the aluminum (or copper) core to cool the boosted (hot air) in the air inlet system and thereby provide a more dense air to the engine.

The reduction in boosted air temperature results in increased mass of inlet air, which, when combined with the appropriate amount of fuel, will allow the engine to generate more power. 

The reduction of temperature in the boosted air will also reduce the possibility of pre-ignition.

All SPA Turbo Intercooler are manufactured from 100% aluminum for light weight and high efficiency. SPA Turbo supplies 3 core types: Bar & Plate, Tube & Fin and Delta & Fin.

Silicon and EPDM Hoses

SPA Turbo supplies a variety of hoses that allow connecting turbos to tubes and tubes to intercoolers, etc. The Hose product line is made available in both silicone and EPDM materials. 

SPA Turbo Hoses are available in a large variety of shapes to permit virtually any setup possibility.

Special Air Filter: Scientific Air Flow

SPA Turbo offers its own line of air filters: Scientific Air Flow. The Scientific Air Flow filter shape is result of the Engineering Department's studies with computerized simulation to find the ideal air flow.

The best solution found to date is the conical shape in the top of the filter in combination with a flow accelerator in anodized aluminum at the bottom. This provides maximum increase in air velocity into the intake system while the high flow filter does it job of cleaning the air.
